The inaugural project of Point in Passing, created in collaboration with the incredibly talented Eric Rieper and Ross McCampbell, WWWWWWWWWWWWW.XYZ, is a browser based web platform which repurposes the passive content of YouTube, and converts it into a realtime, VJ performance tool.

Using the App

A user can live edit (4) videos simultaneously using their computer keyboard. Each row of the keyboard is linked to (1) YouTube video. The app generatively cuts any Youtube video into 10 distinct parts. One can instantly edit to those points by pressing the keys in the given row.

Thousands of videos were curated and categorized within content “Channels.” Emphasizing the breadth of content found on YouTube—strange, ugly, personal, beautiful, absurd—creating improvised moments of contrast where the juxtaposition of dramatically different videos can create something greater than the sum of its parts.

Release Event

To celebrate the release of WWWWWWWWWWWWW.XYZ, Point in Passing, held a fully immersive, vertigo inducing event. Five projectors were mapped and connected to wireless keyboards on pedestals within the space. Each guest was given the ability to VJ the event in real-time.

“It’s infinite, confusing, and a total time suck.”
